Socks knitted with the magic loop method. Not a tutorial, just a real-time example of what it looks like. Size 2 needles.

  • shelives7: I posted this video as a response to people looking for what magic loop looked like "in action" versus the super slow-motion how-to videos - it wasn't meant as a tutorial because there are plenty of them already. I'm sorry you don't find it helpful, and I do plan on recording more I just don't usually have my camera with me when I knit.

  • Wow, ok - have gotten several questions / comments:

talkwithmyhands: I have lots of circulars, those are a size 2 and probably Addi's, but I prefer KnitPicks's Options because the cable is more flexible.

RandonShowTV: I actually find it much easier to tote socks around with me when I'm doing magic loop. The beginning is a bit tricky, but it gets easier.

jenniferhowell: I don't currently have any socks near the heel gusset, but when I do I will see about taping the heels. You work one at a time.

  • Happy to help! I've been using magic loop for quite some time and don't even think about it anymore - but I well remember how awkward it was at first.

  • This is fantastic and exactly what I wanted to see! I understood the tutorials, but I really wanted to see how it looked in action, especially with a bit of the project already done. I was wondering about the gap...but now I see the gap is certainly not a problem!

  • Thank you for simplifying this for me. I was able to wrap my brain around this video. Happy Knitting.

  • ok, so you can't do math at the same time as knitting :), but thanks for the video -- that provided the missing information i needed to get a better feel for how this should work.

  • This is awesome, thanks. I've seen one sock magic loop demonstrations, but I think that this will help me teach myself two sock magic loop. I'll do top down vs bottom up, because that's how I roll (one technique at a time), but I think I have the idea now.

  • Thank you so much! Just the video I needed to see!

  • I am getting the hang of the magic loop however....I can't get the gap to close between the first and last stitches. I am doing them so tight but, I still have a hole at the beginning of the piece. It looks great as I get it worked up. Any advise? Thanks

  • I, for one, LOVE this video! After reading about Magic Loop and watching a few videos on how to set up the beginning - I felt ready to start. This video was just the icing on the cake, because it helped solidify my understanding by seeing the technique in "real time". I have never knit a sock in my life - now I feel confident to try the "2 at a time" technique. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Again, could you give us some commentary as to what you are doing and why? You can't assume everyone looking at these is beyond beginner in expertise. It's like you did a video to show everyone how fast you can knit! Please tell us what you're doing!!
