AbsoluteWrite was fair when Jenna had it, but it turned to shit immediately after she gave up the reins. They treat everybody like kids and lock a topic if it gets the slightest bit heated. If you don't like queers don't expect to stay long.

@ardecon It's worse than that. I started posting there and they got mad because I said someone was not educated after they told me I was not educated. The mod said I told them they were uneducated. I asked for an exact quote, and the mod couldn't do it. Then in a PM he yelled at me. I said I wasn't afraid of him and they ban me. I had a one up conversation with the owner and won. He hated that. They are the Stasi, no writer should be proud of such a controlled place.

@ardecon I can see that. That's not the way to run a forum of discussion, especially not with writers. Especially not a place that thinks Wikileaks is a godsend and should be protected.

@TonkaJay Yeah, it's a waste of time. You can get a good pointer or two once in a great while, but most of the time if you post something for critique you'll get something like "that sucks" ,or something along that line, without any suggestions to make it so it doesn't "suck."
The funniest section is the political board. Regarless of what is says, you are NOT entitled to your opinon, unless it coincides with the mod's opinion and doesn't go against any of the mod's friend's opinions.

Absolute Write Watercooler forums are ran by the Stasi.

Foreststarchild, your hostility is misplaced. This type of advice as as good as they come. Pixelfaeie's advice is generalized enough to keep from restricting you to one specific "accepted" style of writing. Also it keeps you from missing out on the learning processes associated with doing your own research. Specialized advice is the type you should feel hostile towards... with 6 billion ppl on the planet, it's bound to fail somewhere..at least with her advice, if you mess up...it's your fault

Have to agree with forstarchild about AW. The problem isn't rookies giving advice or that people on AW aren't published (though most aren't). It's just the general lack of civility. It's not a very nurturing community. Search the forums for AW Bingo and you'll see what I mean. These guys aren't amateurs because they aren't published. They're amateurs because they lack professionalism. Lurking on AW is fine, but I wouldn't wade in with those sharks unless you want a harsh reception.

I agree with Foreststarchild, one thing is critiqing, members of that forum put down your work, or make fun of it and don't even ask for advice you end up more confused then you were before.
That is why I very rarely go into the site.
Absolutewrite sucks. It is mostly failed writers critiquing others. Jenna started that site to sell her crap. Very few of those writers are successful. I would BEWARE of any advice they give you on the forums. I never read such terrible writing before in my life, and yet they think they can teach others. There are better sites than Absolute Write.

There's better? And yet you neglect to let people know of these 'better' websites?
Considering many of the writers on AW are published, either through books or magazines, etc., I don't know if I'd completely avoid a site based on that the majority are working on becoming writers. Your venom against AW though seems to linger from something else perhaps?
Any thoughts?

Actually,
Very few of the writers on AW are published. They do however like to give advice and a ton of it is nonsense. Like listening to obese people teach others how to diet.

So another writer can't give tips or talk about writing if they haven't been published? Again, you haven't talked about any sites you know that are better. So I'm going to assume you're just looking for lulz but more power to you. Good luck with your writing.

2 mins of my life am never getting back, how can you check out the website listed with the Internet turned off.
Writing come from the imagination not by reading/copying other peoples works!

Huh? How can you check out this video if you've got your internet off? ;) And I agree with you, imagination and research are important for writing. Plagiarizing sucks.
