  • I ordered it but won't ever hear it play. The Bandswitch board is screened single-side, but TT expects you to mount the componenents on BOTH sides, following a low-res xeroxed copy of the manual. The sides were not even marked "front" and "back". I tried to understand the mess, mounted the parts on both sides as I thought the lousy print and poor images were instructing, then found I had mounted everything backwards and that it wouldn't fit the panel. I threw the entire kit in the garbage.

  • @mnpd007 Don't give up on this cool little project! Your error is easily fixed. Just contact Ten-Tec. From my experience, they will replace minor damaged parts at little or no cost. I know this from experience -- but I won't go into that here ;-) 73 de NG9D . .

  • @mnpd007 Hi Tom, I just also read your (KA4DQJ) product review on eham.net. I am sorry you had a bad experience. I suggest you contact Ten-Tec for replacement parts. You can also write to me directly, however please understand I am just a fellow ham radio operator. I do not work for Ten-Tec. I wish you the very best. 73 Lynn NG9D

  • I found this very interesting. Did you use the same antenna on both receivers?

  • Hi ESH!

Very good point! The T1253 was on a 135ft long doublet at 25ft above ground, resonant at ~3.5MHz - not tuned to 12MHz at that time.

The G6 provided reception on just its 21" telescopic whip antenna. I have tried external antennas on the G6, but they tend to overload the radio.

Note for anyone experimenting with outdoor antennas and portable recievers: drain the static charge (i.e. ground) the antenna before connecting to protect the detector circuit!

  • The ETON GRUNDING have got many PLL noises like many other PLL radios ...

But the TEN TEC is a direct conversion radio without internal noises ...

  • How did you get the 1253 to fire up on band 6 from a cold start? They usually default to band 1 (160m).

  • @staniz4

I put one together once. It wasn't that difficult (would have been easier if I hadn't been a cheapskate and used a better soldering iron), and the sound was great, just like in this video. Wish I still had it. Regens are a lot of fun.

  • I like that alot.I was hopeing someone out there was hearing more than static.

  • I'm wondering how good G6 is against a Tecsun PL-600...

  • did you use the same antenna ??

  • Great video. I have a Grundig G6. But i was looking at the Ten Tec. I wanna know how hard it was to put together. And what your set up in terms of antennas. I hope to hear from you soon
