  • I am actually planning on making a beer similar to this, mostly due to someone changing me to do it.

the resapie would just be a traditional Maple porter, with a few tweaks here and their to the resapie, followed by a raking to 1 gallon secondaries and hog hopping 1-3 of my gallon jugs.

Shouldn't be too hard. the real challenge is that I don't eat bacon, so its going to be odd to make a beer I cant taste :(

  • @skullface1818 I would def be sure to incorporate more sweetness into this one then Rogue do. Maybe instead of adding actual bacon use some smoked malts instead. That way u wont have to worry about the grease from the bacon screwing with the head retention

  • @BeerGeekNation I can add some carmalized cane sugar the the recapie that I'm currently following, and I could be sure to absorb as much bacon grease as humanly possible (Bake for 15-20 minute, medium heat, over parchment paper and then dry with paper towels).

Im I am very through I might be able to get rid of most of the bacon grease for the dry hopping.

Some smoked malts might be a good idea.

someone also suggested Bacon salts for the flavoring...... thoughts on that?

  • @skullface1818 Im not sure about the bacon salt. Honestly I would just stick with smoked malts. The bacon would worry me.

  • @BeerGeekNation

This is the current malts I'm looking at using. 5 ounces of chocolate malt

5 ounces of black patent malt

5 ounces cherry wood smoked malt

    10 ounces crystal malt (60L)

  • @skullface1818 That looks really good

  • @yokohamaguy75 Nice, that is a really interesting food paring! I would have never thought about that. Maybe ill have to give it a try with my other bottles. Cheers!

  • I had a glass of this to go with a slice of apple pie and it was fantastic. The first time I tried it, it was by itself and I wasn't really a fan, but pair it with a slice of thick apple pie and it really makes me smile.

  • @thehuntfortruth I absolutely agree with everything you said

  • @BESTIACRUEL8 Yeah pretty much
