Hmong: Our Secret Army - CBS 60 MINUTES

This 60 minutes segment was shot by my Dad, Larry Mitchell. My Dad was one of the top, rock n' roll, hot-shot, kick-ass cameramen of yesteryear, shooting from the early sixties up until just a few years ago. And this piece is just a snippet into what he did.

Take a look. Here they are shooting on 16mm film in a foreign country, under tough circumstances, investigating a pretty unpopular subject. And its BEAUTIFUL. I've heard that my Dad was the master of the manual zoom and you can see it in this piece. There's even rumor that my Dad invented the 'slow-creep in' during interviews when subjects got emotional or tense. I don't think its rumor.

My Dad also helped to bring a Hmong family to Los Angeles after shooting this piece. I remember visiting with them. I wonder, 'Where are they today?' My Dad says the father's name was 'Lorgy.' Would love to re-connect them.

My Dad was the real deal and he's an huge inspiration for everything I do. Enjoy.
