I just recently purchased this 14' aluminum with a 1968 Evinrude Sportwin 9.5 outboard motor. When I brought it home, the motor had a mix of water and gas in the lower cylinder and there was no spark on either cylinder. Popped the flywheel and cleaned the points, flushed the cylinders with 2-stroke oil, fresh gas in the tank and now it runs, quite well at that!

  • the fuel tank was about 60% gasoline, 40% water, and I don't think the previous owner knew that... I think he flooded it so badly while trying to start it, the water/gasoline mix stayed in the cylinders after he gave up on it.

either way, I've put about 8 tanks of gas threw it this summer and it is ran perfectly... until a spark plug wire broke :p When someone changed the coils and wires, they didn't leave enough slack in one of the wires, so it stretched and eventually broke at WOT.

  • you wouldnt happen to know how to remove the powerhead?

  • congrats

  • do you have to mix the gas with the oil im new at this boat motor thing an i ws just wondering what kind of oil if you do thanks

  • Good good, so long as the head gasket is good you should be ok with that motor, they wind up pretty good but I think the 9.9 is better, I own both.

  • Water in the lower cyclinder isn't normal, sure you don't have a head gasket problem
