Instead of trying to sell your service to someone when you first meet them in a networking situation or event, tell them what you do in the form of an "intro-mercial." Identify if they are a good fit and bring them in as a prospect.
Don't go in for the sell right away. If they are not a good fit, instead of walking away or trying to force something on them, listen to them and find out if they offer a service or product that you could use.
Become a resource, be an active listener, and provide valuable information when first meeting potential clients and customers. You have a moral obligation to share what you have with those who need it.
