What's up my northern european brothers and sisters (well those are the most common who get it, 1/2,000 people). I had mine removed 10 years ago this year. The only downside is I get sick easy (or blame it on the 4 year old and preschool), other than that I live a normal life. My mother had hers out as an infant.

I as well have spherocytosis, and about two years ago I had my 20lbs spleen removed. Since I had it removed I have been sick. Been in and out of ICU. Doctors have no answers. I also have had 4 spinal taps. It has now changed my life, feel down depressed and with out energy.

As a kid, I had energy, but tired quickly and was sick often. For a while, doctors figured I had leukemia. I think that kind of put my parents through hell, but after more tests, found that I had spherocytosis. My spleen came out when I was about 11, I'm 44 now, and never really looked back. That turned my life around. I am aware of my immune condition and take travel precautions, but there is no way it controls my life. I got the chicken pox about 6 years ago and pulled through ok.

I had my spleen removed 24 yrs ago... no side effects at all... very healthy...was terrible before I had my spleen removed!

My 7 month old was was told he has this and he is on his 3rd blood tranfusion. And we were told when he gets older he will have his spleen removed. Now that i have found this i am unstanding what is going on.

I have HS as do all three of my children. I had a splenectomy over thirty years ago with no side effects. I work in healthcare, so am around sick people all day, yet I rarely get sick. My son had a his spleen out at age five, and is in his 20s and fine too. Other two didn't need a splenectomy yet.

I just found out that i have Spherocytosis, my doctor said my spleen is a little enlarged but not to the point where i need to be worry about. He advised me to get my spleen remove. He explained to me all about psenectomy, im kinda iffy about it and think of not getting it remove untill much later on. is this a bad idea? should i get it remove?

I am 17 years old and I was diagnosed with spherocytosis when I was a year and a half and I have had many complications due to this disorder. I have been in and out of the hospital since I was in 7th grade and I have had numerous surgeries including having my gallbladder, spleen, appendix, and my tonsils removed. I haven't had many other problems but I still go to the hematologist regularly just to make sure. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I was diagnosed with shperocytosis, homochromatosis and anemia when i was 13. I was really really sick and was bleed for 4 years ever 2 weeks. Now that im 23 have had some serious problems. I had my spleen removed when i was 18. I have arthritis in pretty much all my joints, mood swings that i take meds for. I recently had to have my adnoids and tonsils taken out becuase of infections and in the next few months have my gallbladder taken out. This is a horrible disorder.
