The Great Depression wasn't ended by government intervention as some people claim, it was ended by American productivity.

In particular, unemployment continued to be high until the war as make work jobs were completed. Dead and wounded Americans reduced the labor pool by 1 million. After the war a permanent Military Industrial Complex was created employing millions more.
