  • This documentary will be a testament to all that is changing within our world...The sense of community; the desire to share a song and drink, and create a memory; the openness of being who you are without fear of rejection. We have a brand (2 year old now) piano bar in Key West, thanks to Pat West and Chip Allen. We all hope to see it last and prosper for years to come...This is so sad seeing these historic venues close...They're not just places...they're HISTORY!

  • Pianist Vanessa Vickers passed away before this project began. Her memories of many spaces no longer open can be found in a series of 9 clips on YouTube titled VANESSA VICKERS DON'T TELL MAMA. Clip #1 is all stories .

  • How could anyone who was part of the best times in NY history ever forget you Karen or the wonderful magical nights we all spent at 88's. Thank God for the co-starring role it played in the movie Trick. At least it was preserved, albeit all to briefly, forever in a movie.

A loving fan from the old days,

    Gary Olsen

This documentary looks amazing. It is a shame that all of us can't pool whatever resources we have to open a new/old-style piano bar. Don't cost nothing to dream, right?

  • No, the piano bars don't need improving.

Marie's is packed to capacity on Saturday night.

They do exist, they can exist.

Americans have been conditioned to accept noise as music, and empty art, but there is real art in the american popular song and the broadway idiom and Art is Life Preserved.

  • Thanks for remembering us!!

    Karen

former co-owner of 88's, and weekend piano player

  • God Bless you Matt Baylor!!!!!!

  • No you cant modernize the piano bar scene. The characters and seedy settings are part of the piano bar charm. They tried to revamp the five oaks and all they ended up doing was to make the place sterile. Just like the West Village is now just an upscale outlet mall.

  • This is a beautiful piece...but I think there is there is work to be done to modernize the old piano bars and cabarets for that matter. There not dead but out of date. The public are stil interested in LIVE music and especially great talent behind the mic...the questions is: How do you bring them back? Chris / Upright Cabaret / Producer

  • I miss my piano bar family. Please don't forget 88's and the simple times. Piano Bars where the great joy on my youth in NYC.
