  • I'm happy that they're in the process of making energy efficient incandecents. If successful, CFLs will be kicked to the curb. Instead of our government encouraging to save energy, they're DEMANDING that we switch. Thats only gona cuz panic and more ppl will start stocking up on edison bulbs, so in the long run, the ban is a complete waste. Nobody is going to tell me how to light my home. I dont live in a communist country so i will stock up on edison bulbs until the energy efficient ones come

  • General Electric:

$10.58 6 Bulb Pack 13 Watts Each Compared Against 60 Watt.

Energy Saver Bulbs do put out more light than standard bulb of same rating a bit so they're a bit brighter, that's why instead of using a 75 Watt bulb can use a 60 watt compared version instead.

  • I use 1 bulb in 2 bulb sockets now instead of 2.

    21 bulbs.

    75 Watts * 21 = 1575 Watts

    60 Watts * 21 = 1260 Watts

    40 Watts * 21 = 800 Watts

    If you have a security/floodlights 260 Watts.

    After Energy Saver bulb Conversion:

    11 Bulbs in use now.

    13 Watts * 11 = 143 Watts.

    Floodlight 23 to 26 Watts.

  • 4 hours a day atleast. I flip mine on and off very frequently. 1 package i got bulb didn't light at all, the other were bad because too dim and didn't took to long to warmup, I replaced the bad ones with good ones and work fine.

  • I tested bulbs by turning off appliances accept for the lightbulbs, then I raan garbage disposal which normally would use so much power it'd dim lights a bit, I don't see the lights dim anymore since I put those energy saver ones in, your appliances will create a bigger fluctuation than those lightbulbs you'd think.

  • They only last 10.000 hours they're used on a 2 and half to 3h cycle. If these lamps are turned on and off to often, they'll last much less then 10.000 hours. It can last 80% less on an 5min cycle. Manufactures come up with these numbers by letting the lamp on 3hs, 15min off, 3hs on, 15min off, tha's how it last about 10.000 hours.

  • There's an issue regarding the increase in the usage of these CFLs. They are known to increase the "electrical pollution", due to their poor Power Factor which is about 0,5 or 0,6 at the best. This causes some issues on the current and voltage of the electrical system (Phase Shifting) and this reduce the quality of the power. I'm not telling people not to use these lamps, I use it myself, but this Power Factor issue must be addressed buy the manufactures. Google it yourselves. ;)
