Barefoot Bluegrass does a nice a job of this. With these girls you can understand the words.

I first saw the Haden sisters perform this when they were still with that dog. They performed it at an all-acoustic set at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica (probably around 95 or 96). Glad to finally hear this again. Wish they'd release the McCabe's show though; that was a great performance.

The Haden Triplets are awesome on this, especially considering how terrible the guitar player is. They can bring me in for their next show, at least I play in time.

He's actually pretty darn good on the family album not to be compared w/ the haden sisters of course...

Gillian Welch does a good version of this live, or she used to anyway.
Sara Carter recoded this solo with Maybelle playing guitar on Aug 2, 1927. This song sold more than any other from the 1st session, Aug 1-2, 1927, and the was the least favorite for Sara. As she said, "wouldn't you know that was the one that sold the most". This song helped Ralph Peer build the body of Carter Family work around Sara's strong lead voice. Few could lay down a track on thick wax and have it be heard. This youtube version probably would not have projected well on an old 78.

Not so strange. Their father Charlie Haden had a connection to the Carter Family before he became a legendary jazz bassist.
