I had a Japanese marsh shrimp for about 6 years. My current one, September 2009. If I don't see them for ages, I know they'll be okay as they're survivalist scavengers. I'll move onto freshwaters of all colors.

do you have any fish in the tank? like neon tetras or guppy?

@huntertank90 No, I do not keep any fish with my shrimp. Shrimplets are extremely tiny and will make a tasty snack for the fish, even the smallest Danios and Rasboras. Otocinclus cats have been reported to be safe with shrimp; or if you have a heavily planted tank where shrimp can hide, then it might be safe to keep fish and shrimp together.
