With a Nikon D90 and a home-made intervalometer (seen on dash), I recorded my trip from Utah to California taking one picture every 10-11 seconds, minus about an hour of travel before Winnamucca when I could change the battery. There are about 2970 pictures in all, played at 30 frames-per-second.

oh man do you have any plans for that intervalometer?
I have been using my laptop but that just doesn't cut it sometimes.

I use it every now-and-then. I think all the parts can be found at Radio-Shack. It's just a 555-timer chip that lights an LED stuck in heat-shrink tubing with a photo resistor that connects to the switch on the wireless remote. Parts cost around $20, and similar instructions can be found on Instructables.
