It's Kata...all martial arts have kata. In Karate it's when they are alone and do a set routine of punches/kicks/blocks. In Kendo/Naginata you have a partner. This is to show basic forms, different stances, different strikes, techniques, and control. Kata is only one side of this martial art, the other side is the more exciting where they put on armor and hit each other for real. But Kata is more relaxed, focused, and controlled.
