Don't ruin your merlin post as shown in this video. Just remove it then use a 1/2 inch threaded rod from a hardware store with some nuts threaded on it. the nuts will stop the threaded rod from falling out of the arm.

I've been using the Cam Caddie Scorpion with great success. It's very simple and effective.

how much should i beat mine? like a few hours everyday? Cause the more i beat it it leans to one side?
JifferRiffic 1 year ago 13
@JifferRiffic It took me around 15 minutes. Nothing happens when you beat it too lightly. Probably you need to used more force. I guess the rod is made of some aluminum alloy, which is not very malleable and beating it to hard may initiate a crack. So I placed mine on a carpet and beat it with a hammer. The rod tends to spring back with every blow, so be very careful. Good luck, and don't get hurt or break anything.

I would like to know when you would use a merlin vest with a glidecam? Is there an advantage? Thanks.

@firepuf I had Glidecam long before Merlin came in the market. These rigs are pricy, so I just bought the vest and arm. As you are starting afresh, this is my scientific advice. I love science :-)
Buy Merlin if you
* shoot handheld stabilized shots a lot
* need folding rig
* do not attach any other gadgets to your rig
* want to pay premium price
Buy Steadicam if you
* have strong arm to carry the cantilever weight
* need other gadgets to be attached
* want to save considerable money
