Caril Ann Fugate

Caril Fugate was paroled in June 1976 after serving 17 years at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, Nebraska. She settled in Lansing, Michigan where she worked as a janitor at a Lansing hospital. Fugate has never married and refuses to speak of the murders.

You have to blame starkweather, she was so young and probably scared, also of very low I.Q. She bettered herself in prison and I think the last public type thing she did was consulting on the film with sissy spacek (badlands). So many journalists would love a piece of her even now, book deals etc. But she stays out of the public eye.

Despite the fact that she was convicted, she's been released, so is she legally able to write a book about what happened? The law states that you can't profit from your crimes. But she's no longer seen as a danger to society, so would they feel that she can publish a book about the crimes, while maintaining that she didn't actually commit them or that things didn't happen exactly as depicted during the trial?

My husband has fond memories of Caril Ann from when he was a child. After her release, she began dating my husband's uncle and used to babysit my husband and his sister. She used to spend time with them doing fun things like going to the movies. My husband and his entire family have nothing but good memories of her. Keep in mind, she lost her entire family, too. She was just a kid when this all happened and very naive. By all accounts from this perspective, she's a very kind person.

Looks like she was another victim of the Douchebag Period. Charles was a bad boy and Caril just wanted to not only make him happy, but also to fit in with the "rebels" of this time. I must say, though, if it wasn't for people like James Dean, we wouldn't have the style we have now.
