Kent County Sheriff Caught in a Web of Lies... Community Wants Him To Resign...

Kent County Sheriff, Lawrence Stelma made a shocking move by destroying the Reserve Unit which has been around since the early 1900's. The reasoning given by the sheriff was that it was being shut down to save money. This was of course a complete smoke screened lie because the Reserve Unit does not get paid by the Sheriff Department, they are paid by community members who need security and officer presence at their community events.

Even more shocking is what the sheriff did next. The Reserve Unit used to charge community events 15 dollars an hour per deputy. This was standard operating procedure for years. When the sheriff shut the unit down, he raised the hourly rate for community events to 55 dollars an hour. As you can see, something very strange is going on within the sheriff department and the sheriff has a lot of questions to answer to.

The sheriff has political ties to the unit called the "traffic squad" and that is (in part) why he wanted to destroy the reserve unit. It is well known that the traffic squad will take just about anyone because they do not perform adequate background checks on employees. They have a bad reputation with road deputies and they have been in trouble for over-stepping their non existent authority. Not so long ago one of these fools actually tried to pull a car over by flashing their badge because he was angry for being cut off in traffic. On another occasion, one of these rag tag traffic squad members was found snooping around in the sheriff department when he should not have been there. Point being, the Reserve Unit was a well managed and highly trained unit of men and women with integrity. The sheriff had no reason other than his political idiocy to shut the Reserve Unit down.

Now YOU, members of this community in Kent County, Michigan are paying the price. YOU will be charged 55 dollars an hour to have a deputy at your event compared to the 15 dollars an hour that the Reserve Unit charged.

Contact the Sheriff, your state representative, and the Kent County Commissioner today to let them know that this is completely outrageous. If the sheriff lied about this, what else is he lying to us about?
