Third, why do you have your wastegate wired shut? If you didn't know, Ford added a wastegate for a reason, and disabling it can lead to premature turbo failure. And also, your probably not gaining anything by running it closed, so its probably doing more damage than good.

Also, there's other things you have to do, besides wire the wastegate shut, to actually gain from it.

  • @ford302redneck Hi: When I said "effectively tied the waste gate shut with a Diesel Site waste gate controller" I should have explained further that the controller keeps the waste gate shut until 24psi then it opens enough to keep the pressure at 24psi no matter how much boost is being made. Since I was not exceeding 24psi boost all waste gate noises could be ruled out.

Second, the squwanking sound is the pressure that's built up being released cause its no longer needed. And is common sound, and is now noticeable because of the open element air filter.

  • @ford302redneck Hi again, There is no pressure being released. Pressure simply stops being made. The engine continues to spin and sucks air in and pushing air out the exhaust out over turbines. This make a noise that is commonly called compressor surge. I think that compressor surge is a misnomer since the air is decelerating not surging. The noise I heard did not start immediately after I installed the open air filter it started later and gradually increased.

Man, where I start? Do you even know what a turbo sounds like? A "hissing" sound when under throttle would probably be the normal sound a turbo makes producing boost. Notice when you let off the throttle, and the turbo is no longer working as hard so no sound.

  • @ford302redneck Hello yet again: When I installed a wicked wheel I noticed that the clamp connecting the turbo housing to the inter-cooler tube was loose. (I mentioned this in another response) I tightened it and the hissing that I was specifically talking about went away. The cameras that I used for this video do not have very good microphones and did not reproduce the compressor leak noise very well. The turbo still makes plenty of noise but they are normal noises.

  • the turbos?? lol

  • If you didnt adjust the actuator rod on the waste gate controller and it is stock, rule that out as well. Did you just put that air filter on? Open air filters make lots of noise.

  • Ya a diesel engine will not use the left over manifold pressure. It just blows back out the air filter when you let off, if a diesel engine used all of the manifold pressure after you let off you would get engine rev between shifts think about it. Your truck sounds fine. It does kind of sound like your waste gate isnt closed all the way, what kind of boost are you making?

  • That stretch of road you're on, is that off of I40? Cause my work was not far from there.
