ORLANDO (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up their 15th NBA championship Sunday night, outrunning the Orlando Magic 99-86 to finish off the NBA Finals in five games.

The title was a milestone 10th for Lakers coach Phil Jackson, breaking a tie for most all-time with Celtics legend Red Auerbach. It also was the fourth NBA crown for Lakers star Kobe Bryant, but his first without former teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

GAME 5 REPORT: Lakers 99, Magic 86

Bryant finished with 30 points to lead all scorers, guiding L.A. to its first title since winning three in a row from 2000-02. Five Lakers scored in double figures.

Orlando center Dwight Howard finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but had just two in the second half as he ran into foul trouble. The Magic's franchise record in NBA Finals games dropped to 1-8.

L.A. ran off 16 straight points in a dominant second quarter to open a 56-46 halftime lead. Bryant scored 15 points in the half, and Trevor Ariza had 11 of his 12 first-half points in the second quarter.

The Lakers surged in front with a 16-0 run to open a 12-point lead, thrilling a large contingent of their fans wearing purple and gold inside Amway Arena.

Los Angeles was 5 of 8 from three-point range in the opening half and made three three-pointers during their big early run. Orlando missed eight of its nine threes before the break.

Orlando, which shot a Finals-record 62.5% from the field in its Game 3 victory, started on pace for another night like that. The Magic made eight of their first 11 shots, running off eight straight points to open a 15-6 lead. But the Lakers came charging back, pushing the lead to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter.

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers, who earned their first NBA championship in seven years and 15th overall with a 99-86 win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday night.

In the end, Los Angeles' defense was just as up to the task as Los Angeles' vaunted offense. The team circled the wagons after Orlando busted out with a 28-point first quarter. Orlando's screen-and-roll attack was barely a factor, as the Lakers' spacing and efficient perimeter shooting on the other end made this a one-sided game by halftime.

Kobe Bryant(notes) finished with 30 points, five assists, and four blocks, but in spite of a series of jaw-dropping drives and perimeter looks, he was merely a brilliant part of the championship puzzle. Pau Gasol's(notes) defense in the interior was a huge part of Dwight Howard's(notes) limited effectiveness in the paint, and Trevor Ariza's(notes) 12-point second quarter helped turn a close game into a Lakers walk.

We'll have more quotes and analysis live from Orlando as the night moves along, but for now, pop a cork, and don't turn over a car, Los Angeles. Your hometown team is a champion, once again.
