Lowe's Woodworkers Shop Class host, Keith Flippen, continues to work on the new coffee table. In Part 4, Keith demonstrates how to build the stools' removable lids and give the coffee table some finishing touches. Remember, because there are 4 stools, you will need to repeat the lid building process an additional 3 times.

To create a stool lid, you will need 2 center lid panels and 4 pieces of lid edging. First, cut the lid panels to length with a miter saw (2 for each lid). Attach the panels together with glue and pocket hole screws. Then, cut the edging pieces to width and length with a table saw and miter saw, respectively. Also cut the ends at a 45 degree angle because you will be making a square out of those pieces. Then, attach with glue and brads. Now you can add cleats to the bottom of the stool lid. Attach the 2 long and 2 short cleats to the lid. When you are done, make sure the lid fits on the stool nicely, giving you additional storage space.

Finally, before wrapping up, fill all holes with a paintable wood filler. Follow up by sanding. Then you can paint, using a primer first.

Now you can enjoy your coffee table! Then visit http://www.LowesCreativeIdeas.com/Community to add pictures of your new coffee table.

  • Nice! You are the best builder on youtube... or on the whole world...

...And how long did it take to make?

  • If you have all them tools ... no problem. I however, do not. I am poor.

  • I would have pocket hole'd the edging to the seat tops.

I'm sure they'd be much more secure and then glue would be an option.

  • you are a genius! you make it sound so easy!

  • what color of paint is used?

  • Nice

  • amazing project and good instructions

  • Excellent work Congratulations Greetings from Venezuela
