i think it's not really about making fun of germany, or germans. Rather, just making fun of Braun for "being on both sides" and, what lehrer obviously sees, a "war criminal." ONe who is not being punished, but rather, a "Hero" for the United States. It's also making fun of the US citizens and govt for ignoring his, as you say, "nazi time". So really he's not sticking it to germany. Rather, Braun (the individual) and the US! If you listen to lehrer, he makes fun of the U.S. a lot.

Do you know how many other Germans who were also genii were put to death by the Americans anyway? Or wait let's talk about the other 26 year olds that WEREN'T genii but were killed anyway even though if they hadn't joined up to be soldiers when called the Gestapo would have jailed and killed them. It shouldn't matter if he WAS a genius, there shouldn't have been preferential treatment when delivering what the U.S. and allies saw as justice.

OK, you cannot charge Lehrer with being overly patriotic or pro-American in any sense. Most of his songs mock America, when he isn't mocking humanity or individuals. Just listen to Send the Marines.

The right thing to do is the right thing to do, regardless of the consequences. The wrong thing to do is the wrong thing to do, regardless of the consequences. Yes, it's a difficult decision to make, but it still has a right and wrong answer.
