@FettahPetta In that case I would ask you, would you 1. Continue doing your work with the funding knowing that many people will die as a result of your research, regardless of your good intentions or 2. Go elsewhere with your research or await the end of the war? He wasn't FORCED to do anything. Anyone can say no if they have the courage.

@tgcnow Sorry, Wernher von Braun was a scientist who worked on what he was interested in. He was forced to adapt rockets to weapons to receive funding he needed from the State. He was in the Nazi Party, but he was forced into it, as rejecting the "offer" would have negative consequences (e.g. no funding). The same is true with the SS (of which he was a part). To be able to continue working he HAD to join.

@FettahPetta Sorry, WVB was a member of the Nazi party and was active in the German war effort. It was not "his" V-2, it was the Third Reich's V-2, and he built it as a loyal member of the regime.
@fluffy0788 i think it's not really about making fun of germany, or germans. Rather, just making fun of Braun for "being on both sides" and, what lehrer obviously sees, a "war criminal." ONe who is not being punished, but rather, a "Hero" for the United States. It's also making fun of the US citizens and govt for ignoring his, as you say, "nazi time". So really he's not sticking it to germany. Rather, Braun (the individual) and the US! If you listen to lehrer, he makes fun of the U.S. a lot.
