I left with sadness everytime, questioning about human nature, filthy desire, an unevenly oriented city, and local people who have to live there. Later i was there to record/oberve this city, not to tour anymore.

Here, i may only wish to respond to the shanghai vs taipei:

I was in shanghai in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006. I wish not to say anything prior to 2004's impression. My perspective: in the first look, a browsing look, it looked like a very busy/crowded city, very vibrant and new. I was there to visit/tour the city, not for an hourly based business trip. I felt the money/the amenities toward money.
