Another classic re-uploaded. This is a documentary I made, based around a set of old rock'n'roll numbers Led Zeppelin recorded at a soundcheck in 1973.

There's lots of interesting information about what was happening at the time - plus speculation about why the songs were recorded.

  • Great work ,,,,,,,,,truthfully I'm happy they didn't proceed in that direction. As tight and great as they sounded in those tracks they all seemed to be bored with it or would get bored with it ........Jimmy knew where to go .......One leads .....

  • they prob didn't play there own songs for soundchecks..could kill the juice for the real show..so over time they amassed many songs they played for warmup, FUN, and proper sound-checks..in '73 they were also gearing up for recording the MSG shows so maybe they pressed "play" and let it rip..or maybe some soundguy just ran lines out into his own tape recorder..they also played old school rock medleys at their gigs btw..just my take on it all..cool old recordings! later rockers..x

  • This is just from the Chicago Sound-check, I have it all on my phone. 15 years old

  • Whoever owns the rights to those recordings could release them now and create a whole new appreciation for the band. The fresh energy in what I heard gives these rock and roll classic a new life .

  • I just don't know why you went with yellow for the text color. It was difficult to read in many places which kind of bugged me. I was interested, but in some places it's tedious. I never heard these songs. I guess Plant re-visited similar with the Honeydrippers. Not my general fare, Physical Graffiti was (OBVIOUSLY) a better move. Still, thanks for the post.

  • nick saban's a douchebag

  • I didn't like this video at all. How could I only like one of the best slide shows I've ever seen. I thought it was sllllow---at first, then I was rivited to it, I absolutly loved your video. I tenjoed the heck out of it and am so glad you gave your time to it.

    Thanks,

    James

  • finally, that's not a picture of richard cole you berk at 7:02; it's B.P. Fallon.

  • and finally poster dude - there's nothing to speculate about the 'material,' nor were Zep (hilarious your 'speculation') concerned how the "new material," would go down with a their audience. they had no intention of playing these songs live, ever. it is simply a sound check and in an ancient tradition, they felt like playing oldies.

  • this shows you how much HARDER plant had to sing on zep nos. his 'blown' voice (blown in late 1972) which negated his ability to sing in original pitch much of the entire zep catalog (compare r&r australia 1972 from anything in 73 forwards) was still able to sing songs that didn't require the extraordinary combination of power and range (the zep catalog) as late as 72.' especially given that plant was incredibly enough a cigarette smoker!
