  • Being a westerner that has lived in Europe for five years I can say that this video is not telling lies. If you wear cross trainers with jeans and a tucked in shirt and a bum bag (a fanny pack as Americans call it) you will look like an American. But the best thing to do it rock your style wherever you go - be yourself. If you are afraid of sticking out for safety reasons, get a few boxing lessons and break the nose of that prick who tries to pick your pocket at the train station.

  • @abmullett Well said! Thank you!!

  • I liked this video (and no I'm not American), I don't know where all the negatives comments are coming from. I like when tourists don't make it too obvious that they look like a tourist.

But I usually can tell who is a tourist just by the fact that they stare at buildings and objects that locals past daily without thinking twice.

  • @deedee286 Thank you! Sadly there are people who would rather lash out in hate than try to understand who this video is directed at and that it speaks in general terms. Of course there are Europeans who wear ball caps or shorts. But, when Americans travel through European countries, our style of dress sometimes make us scream "I'm an American" making us targets for scams, pick pocketing, and other crimes. Dressing more like locals helps us blend in more.

  • i'm from Europe (England) and when its warm i wear shorts and short sleeve t-shirts, i wouldn't want to wear long sleeved jeans when its warm?

my dad wears trainers? and to be quite honest no-one wears fanny packs.

Seriously, have you actually been to Europe:L

  • @BadgeryBadger I'm sure there are exceptions to everything as there are all over the world. But, to answer your question, yes, I have spent quite a bit of time traveling Europe. And to add to that, many of my European friends agree with the message in the video. But I'm glad to hear you keep cool by wearing shorts!

  • European men don't wear sneakers? Which Europe have you been to?

  • I'm European (German) and of course it's right that Europeans don't wear swimming pants all the time, but with the rest we don't really care. Just the fanny pack (is that how it's spelled) is very tourist like.

And by the way: Don't go topless (as a man) in italian supermarkets! I made the mistake once and regret it. they are very catholic and didn't liek that at all.

  • @ebutuoy62 Really cuz no one changes their style of dress when they vacation here. Face it, if you are an American, you are an American. Blending in is pointless when your not in fact, from Europe.

We eat different food, different language and wear different clothing and I haven't seen anyone since the mid 90s wear a fannypack so who the hell cares.

People who care or get mad obviously don't want tourist dollars.

  • @Phalanx3800 I'm still wondering why not everybody in the whole world really loves the americans and the USA. You're a smart gentleman, so you got a clue, maybe? Any ideas welcome. And good luck for your future grace travels, maybe you'll need it.

  • @0311RFLMN pffft, they should be grateful we would want to grace the asshole nations of europe with our visits.

  • @Phalanx3800 you could be the ugly american with that attitude.

  • i will not carry or wear aman bag. how stupid looking and uncomfortable.id sooner carry a gym bag.im visiting to see the country and noy be the ugly american.ill be wearing chinos and agolf shirt in the day and possibly a sport coat with ty for dinner.but not for pizza shop or country dining.shoes with sport jacket sneakers during the day.im going to italy to relax an hopefully get to hear some italian pop star sing like maybe gigliola,or patty .
