The snake is a cobra, Naaga, who shelters and guards Vishnu, Shiva and the avatars, like Krsna. Vishnu (pervader) rests on a many-headed cobra in the cosmic sea. Brahma (creator)arises from his navel within a lotus. Shiva is the third deity in the Triple Deity, essence, creation, and renewal. Shiva's son is Ganesha, Remover of Obstacle, Ganapati (lord of Shiva's dervants, the Gana), and Candra is his other son. There is so much more to tell.
