This is an orphaned baby mouse I found on 8/25/07. Filmed in HD on the Canon HDV (I should have used a better compression strategy though). Update: Monkey is now 4 months old. He is 24 grams and a very crazy happy mouse. I'll post a new video someday! If you find a baby mouse, #1 be sure to keep him warm. Use a heating pad on low and have his container half on and half off the pad. Use powdered puppy milk for food (Esbilac). Be sure to feed him during the night until he is about 4 weeks old. They are little escape artists and can fit through tiny bars, be careful what cage you use if you plan to keep him. My mouse gives me incredible joy every day, he is smart, clever, and loves to play.
Update (02/08/08): Monkey is now almost 6 months old. His nickname is "Doodles." He totally loves to get out of his cage and play every day.
Update 8/25/11....Happy Birthday Mr. Doodles (Doodles is his new name). You are 4 years old today!

  • Yes! I still have him...he is going on 4 years old and still acts like a little kid. He's very very cute!!!

  • Check out all the comments here...there are some good directions. Go to the pet store (like Petsmart) and get a can of powdered Ebsilac (that's milk used for puppies). Keep it in the freezer and mix a little fresh every day, it goes bad fast, so never store it for more than 8 hours mixed up. You'll need to feed them every couple hours, even through the night...just like a mom would. It's a lot of work. It's hard to help them survive....luck is involved I think. Let me know how it goes!

  • This is adorable! Would you suggest getting a mouse as a first pet?

Hi There! I'm amazed at how adorable this little mouse is...very smart, clean, clever, lovable. Yes, I think a mouse would make a wonderful pet. Play with him in an enclosed area where he can't escape...a big (empty) bathtub, or bathroom with a towel under the door so he can't run out. I've seen tips of using putting your mouse in a coffee cup to get him used to you. I always wear an old fleece vest when I play with my mouse, he loves to run under the vest and hide in the pockets

  • @0017asw One more thing...I have a cage with a tube for him to crawl up and down, I rolled up sandpaper for the inside of the tube to keep his nails short...without some type of abrasive in the cage, the nails will grow too long. Also get a hard-sided cage, not a wire cage....they are too little as babies and escape through the wires.

  • Thanks for the comment! Little Doodles (his new name) has a birthday in just a couple days! He'll be 3 years old!
