The Garden Noh Play

Excerpts from a workshop production of The Garden, by Ken Arnold, performed at St. Stephen's Episcopal Parish in Portland, OR, May 19, 2010. The scenes are drawn from each of the play's three scenes. The performers, all from the St. Stephen's choir, performed with scripts (behind fans) and improvised musical lines, roughly following Christian chant tradition. The author is working on more elaborated versions of this and other plays in the Noh style that use Christian stories. Ken Arnold directed; Matthew Smith was musical director. Featured singers: Matthew Smith and Elizabeth Farquhar. The author played shakuhachi and drum.
