the rings are on the right track...really love the pan from one planet to the other - gives a great sense of the fold - I always imagined a field of some sort around the vessel - as it is a Holtzmann effect - very good job...and the original is one of my favourites.

Awesome simulation, and tbh I actually prefer a lack of stars, adds to the realism of an interfering light intensity from a nearby star, that of which gives the heighliner light for us to see. I also wish you could have given a larger impression of the planets, they look far too small and easily generated. Other than that, I absolutely Iove your representation, transition of shadow casting with moving camera angle.

Somehow, the 'rings' don't quite work for me (though I don't remember how Herbert described it, if at all). Maybe it's their speed, something too familiar about them, not because they inherently don't work.
However, the single-panning shot is absolutely golden. I've never seen wormhole/folding space travel portrayed so cinematically and compellingly. You managed made something almost incomprehensible immediately comprehendible, and through cinema. Class act. Hats off.

why don't you show space actually folding or unfolding? show something geometric. think origami, or Escher.
rings and wormholes are way too conventional. does it say in the book that there are rings?
nice work btw :)

@nmangnus82= True. The ability to go faster than light is highly unlikely. It is more possible to fold space. I remember Dune. I was only 9 or 10 when I first saw it.

i always imagined it as the ship folding, not so much space folding. the ship would collapse in on itself, implode if you will, and appear in the next part of the galaxy
-
I think the rings should be more of a rippling field surrounding the ship.

The Holztmann-effekt: Humankind's best invention!!!!
The ring is currently a still from the folding space sequence of the movie which is the visual look I am trying to stay true to... I found that without them it is hard to understand what is happening. Once I get back to revisit this as a FINAL version of the shot, I am going to make the rings a little differently so they change and move and cast light on the Guild Heighliner.
You have to remember that it is "traveling without moving". Only the camera moves.

I have to really put some work into the energy rings... but they tie the whole shot together with the existing movie shots of the 3rd stage guild navigator passing through the rings!

Yes, it's going to take a bit of work to integrate it successfully... but I felt the original "fade in" effect in the movie was not really "accurate" to how the process works (at least in My mind!)

Please note: the stars are not showing owing to the you tube conversion.
