More than two years have gone by since the massacre of hundreds in the Indian state of Orissa and yet many are still dispaced, reeling from the loss of loved ones, property and simple human dignity. This has been a heartbreaking season for thousands who were caught in the mob violence having been unjustly targeted by Hindu extremists. The aim of the extremists was gruesomely simple: force Christians to reconvert or die. In arguably the worst case of Christian persecution in India's history up to 50,000 Christians were driven from their burning homes only to hide in the forrest like animals. Many were able to find shelter in camps set up by the government only to become victims of makeshift bombs and water poisening.
We have some encouraging news! Due to the partnership efforts of Habitat for Humanity India with Supreme Task and other strategic partnership contributions, 20 homes have been rebuilt and more are slated for renovation or rebuilding.
