Twinkle Twinkle is used as an example of how to develop melody playing on the guitar from the very first lesson.

Some topics covered in this video:
Why Twinkle Twinkle? Because everybody knows this tune.

This is the only tune in the book. Why?
Because there is plenty of repertoire available elsewhere. Use music written for any treble clef instrument. e.g. Xmas carols, Nursery Rhymes, Famous classical themes, Lullabies.

Open string - the melody begins and ends on an open string. Therefore the first sound is very easy for a beginner to get - the sound of the open G string.

Intervals - the distance of a 5th

Play melodies on one string to understand the nature of melodic intervals. Position playing does not reinforce melodic intervals.

Appreciation of melodic intervals is a crucial ensemble skill.

Not all notes are the same distance apart.

The entire melody can be learned in the very first lesson!

Seventh position and second position.

Scale degrees.

Left hand fingering.

Keep it simple! Don't introduce unecessary position changes.

The beginnings of a memorised repertoire!

This series of videos demonstrates subjects from "Guitar playing and how it works" 3rd edn by Peter Inglis. (ISBN: 9780980459203).
This book shows how guitar performance skills can be developed to a very high standard by any average person.
