i started watching at season 6 it was brill but season 7 was very poor and the conspiracy plot just wasnt theyre anymore.

@sunshinebutmorerain I agree a big part of what made the X-files was the forest motif that we were so used to in the first 5 seasons. The gloominess of the Vancouver weather also made the show what it was. I had a problem with the sunshine too but you can blame it more on bad writing and I guess they were running out of paranormal stories to tell by that stage...

Part of that was the network's fault for prolonging a show that should have ended. The show was only supposed to go five seasons; Fight the Future was supposed to be the first in a line of movies to wrap up the plotline. When the contract was renewed for more seasons, "Requiem" was written as the series finale. After that, they were renewed for more seasons, and we get series rot.

Well, ironically, the X-Files lost it's way when the sunshine was present a majority of the time from season 6 onward.

It's also ironic how people complain about negativity while being so negative.

The gist of other the posters here seems to be "so what?", in regards to how badly the show degraded in later seasons.

That Carter, Spotnitz et al pat themselves on the back for their own laziness and contradictions should be offensive. But the offense seems to be someone pointing this out.

sunshinebutmorerain - why? r u so twisted inside that u don't know real genius when you see it. Chris Carter created the x-files - sure, he might not have written some of the episodes - but without him it wouldn't have existed. The show was a major success thanks to him and it was his great idea that started it all.
