More characterful and sensuous performances by Netania Davrath (1931-1987) of these luscious folk-song arrangements, including the ever-popular 'Bailero'. The anonymous orchestra is conducted by Pierre de la Roche.

  • Perfect. Absolutely a perfect voice for this work.

  • @Inwoodsman -- I, too, am a big fan of de los Angeles and who doesn't love von Stade (for all manner of good reasons), but they both sing 'operatically', not as folk singers. Canteloube was writing folk songs, not grand opera, bel canto or any other type of opera. Hence Davrath's renditions have a unique quality to them - unaffected, with beautiful clear diction and full of charm and insight into the rustic culture which the songs describe. A world apart from the musical conceits of opera.

  • For me, the best ever rendition of this gorgeous folk song setting. Too many sopranos sing "Bailero" with a rather suave and operatic delivery that doesn't seem to fit. Davrath captures the wistful, yearning girlish simplicity of the song as no other before or since. And the orchestral accompaniment also perfectly blends rustic directness with evoactive tone and phrasing. Hearbreakingly beautiful.

  • Absolutely lovely!

  • També una gravació molt bonica, malgrat inferior a la Victòria en el tema de l'afinació.
