Lamar Gant, 1957. amerikansk världsrekordhållare i styrkelyft.

Lamar Gant, 1957. American world record holder powerlifting. He has taken several world record in different weight classes. He also got a Guinness world record, lifting five times his own body weight in deadlift.

  • best powerlifter to ever live (in terms of relative strength)

  • Read that this guy was the first man to ever total 12x his bodyweight, with a total of 1,587 lbs at 132 lbs bodyweight. Also deadlifted 683 lbs at 132 lbs bodyweight, a 5x bodyweight lift. Impressive!

  • @Notofthisworld13 also had scolioses

  • I love the way he approaches the bar and sets himself. Spunk

  • long ass arms!

  • he's from my home town of Flint Michigan baby

  • who deadlifted 5 x bw at 114 lb class?

  • @N: In '82@123, Gant deadlifted 5.18x bodyweight. This WR still stands. In '88@132, he DL'd 5.17x BW. This also still stands. The '82 DL's the longest-standing WR in powerlifting, one of the longest in sports. Lighter division records tend to be a higher % of BW, but Gant's two records still surpass the 114 lb class DL record of 5.00x BW, set 11yrs later. Truly the two greatest lifts ever, all the more amazing for being 6yrs apart..

  • Dude looks built to deadlift. Those arms are massive for his height.

  • @stuqua Actually, it's questionable whether the better leverage actually helped him with the deadlift either. Since his massive lateral spinal curvature means that he was predominantly lifting with only one side of his back. And as you say, everyone can see that he was insanely strong on the bench press as well, where spinal curvature makes little to no difference. His muscles and CNS are just extremely efficient. Makes you think what he would've been able to pull with a perfectly healthy back.

  • His long arms helped him deadlift 5 times his bodyweight, but they didn't help him bench press over 2.5 times his bodyweight.

  • @jdoyle650 Cough cough..The Best Powerlifter to ever live. PERIOD In all terms of powerlifting. NEVER On roids and unbeaten records that still stand as walls of iron. Equivalent to Pocket Hercules in my book.
