The UN has expressed concerns over the human rights situation in Nepal, saying the peace process is still at risk with tension between the military and its former enemy - The Peoples Liberation Army.

The Maoist government came to power seven months ago promising sweeping social changes, but life for the Nepalese has changed little.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley reports from the capital, Kathmandu.

  • @MrNaryal People associated with Communism are usually athiest, although there are religious variations such as Christian Communism.

China restricts religion, so I would assume that the state "religion" is atheism.

  • @DozleZabi yep! China isn't Communism!

  • Peace ONE LOVE

  • Maoists are the greatest criminals and lyers there is. They are going to destroy the country as they did in Cambodia and other places.

  • Nepal always relies on India and Koreans....

It could be better, rely on the UN!

    Himal, Nepal is a sh;thole!

  • OH- himal, ure country scks balls!!

  • the only way Nepali can develop is through literacy and education. i believe Nepali people are good people in the majority. the world should help the Nepalese develop education and infrastructure through grass roots movements. then nepali people will have their own grass roots movements creating a party which the people will really know whats its motives are. Power always belong to the people. With independent media, people will know better, will choose better government with less corruption.

  • maoists cant just change the country in a day..

has any1 seen the state of country

Nepal hasnt got enough money to change into a dream country thats why it takes time

although we can see some big changes

like arniko highway from kathmandu to tibet this results in nepal getting alot of help from China which is good news

also nepal will rely less on india and hopefully the open boarder will be closed

They r doing no good to nepal by stealing our part of country

  • Claiming they will bring change after 40 years is ridicules. The people will not wait that long and elects other parties. Unless they get rid of elections and institute the one party system.
