There's something very charming about the first person view with the large overhead simultaneously. While I can't say much about this game, I do like that exploration interface for some reason.

My Commodore 128 would over-heat and crash on the whole horse jumping mini-game. Even my Commodore hated this game. I had to fashion a fan to blow into the vents whenever I played Hillsfar.

@ethanbubblegumtate Yeah, I didn't leave town unless I HAD to! The lockpicking, on the other hand, I had no problem with... Speaking of which, I would not have hired the "rogue" in THIS video to pick locks, but for an entirely different purpose!

@IdaGno Thanks :)

The old DOS games were greater than todays games. It was pen and paper but the idea that something was visually presented to you. So you had neither friends or a few to play pen and paper D&D with. It didn't matter. You could go play with your....erm....computer all the same XD

@WildBuck007 Well, that applies to the likes of Pool of Radiance for sure. I don't know about this one though, Hillsfar's a pretty simple arcade experience with good graphics for the time.

Oddly, the stupid horseback riding was the HARDEST thing to control in the C64 version of this!

@GoblinXXX Agree on that one. The C64 version has pretty good controls overall, which I guess wasn't unusual for the time. But the horseback riding part in that version is the stuff of nightmares.

1989? This is some seriously advanced stuff! Look at that horse slowly jump!

LOL. The worst part is how long everything takes. This game manages to be both boring and tedious. I sometimes get a kick out of playing a bad game. :)
Although compared to the NES version this one is a masterpiece.
