These are 10 of my favorite French bands playing what I call chanson. Not the old kind like Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour or Lucienne Delyle. More like French folk music and some can be called rock.

Nice selections of French folk/rock. Especially like (2) and (8).
May I also suggest: Hubert Felix Thiefaine - "La fille du coupeur de joints". Tri Yann - Instead of "Les Prison de Nantes", my pick would be "Pelot d'Hennebont", "La jument de Michao", "Tri Martolod", or "Maluron Lurette",
It's not French folk/rock (more like folk/rap) but also worth a listen are Manau "Tout le monde" (funny video) and "Tribu de Dana". Maybe you already know these, but if not - check them out.
