HAMMONTON---One Atlantic County family is looking to thank their community for what they say was a tremendous outpouring of support during a very difficult time. Following the sudden death of a Hammonton teen last month, friends and family say, they have found a way to see that her memory lives on.
Numerous trinkets that symbolize Gabrielle Campione, adorn her gravesite in Hammonton that friends and family fondly refer to as, "the camp-site."
It was back on July 30, that the 15 year old died as a result of an ATV accident in Camden County, while attempting to help a friend remove, another ATV from the railroad tracks.
"We always told her, she's our little butterfly, hopping from here to there, she just wanted to have fun." Remembers her father, Allen Campione.
Now, almost one month later, her family and friends are working on a special project to remember the girl, whose life they say was cut too short and to say thank-you to the community that showed tremendous support, her father explains, "Happened to be watching last month's chat with the Mayor meeting televised, they happened to be talking about parks and recreation in Hammonton; improvements they were proposing and stuff like that and a woman had mentioned about the need for a skateboard park in Hammonton."
At that moment, Campione says he knew what needed to be done, "It's going be a park for the whole community with a skateboard park in it. I have a lot of ideas: I'm presenting some pictures a little gym area there's going to be a facilities building, with lavatories, vending machines, exercise area for joggers in the neighborhood."
Campione even believes that he has the perfect site, a parcel of land, located by the train tracks and owned by the town, would offer a safe place for all to enjoy out-door activities, "That's why the skate park is so great, it's thrilling, she loved fun, she loved adventure, she couldn't go fast enough or jump high enough."
Campione is preparing to present his plans for the memorial park, to the Mayor and Town Council at Monday night's 7 o'clock meeting at the Town Hall.
Campione says he is excited that many officials have already showed tremendous support.
The Campione's say anyone interested in helping out can
