As I pontificate the snow day for NYC schools, I look down from my brownstone window around 9am to see poor Columbia students trying to get to their classes. The students wade tirelessly through feet of untrodden snow in an attempt to get to class on time, only to be crushed: Carman Gates are closed. They crowd around the gates to see if their efforts can pay off: if they are skinny or small enough, they might, just might, be able to squeeze through the slight opening. Some say 'f--- it' and walk the long way around to Lerner, while others put down their backpacks and attempt to make it. Most don't. They give in to the "snow-cleaning operations." And from the comfort of my warm dorm room, I laugh. Oh, the joy of laughter.
