VAUGHAN, ON — The Ontario Soccer Association's U13 Regional Girls Programs teams played at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan this past week-end to compete for a spot on this season's U14 Provincial Team.

The Regions showed very well with many outstanding players scouted by the Regional Coaches with the OSA's Manager of Player Development and this season's U14 Girls Head Coach, Bryan Rosenfeld, on site to make his contribution to the selection list.

"This year's U-14 Provincial ID weekend highlighted an exciting pool of talent," said Rosenfeld. "I believe stronger communication between Club, Academy, District and Regional programming has created a more efficient OSA elite player identification program."

The players will receive notification in the mail as to the results from this past week-end confirming their status as 50 of the players identified will be invited back for phase I of the U14 try-outs beginning in October.

The Ontario Soccer Association's U13 Regional Boys programs will be at the Ontario Soccer Centre to compete for positions for this up-coming season's U14 Provincial Team with their games starting this Friday evening and continuing through the week-end.

Like the Girls Teams, the Regional Coaches have been working with their Player base since October / November of 2009 in preparation for the week-end's matches where the Players will be scouted by the Provincial and other Regional Coaches to identify the strongest candidates to move on into the first phase of selections for the U14 Provincial Program.

Historically, 40 to 50 players will be identified after the week-end's games to move on into the next phase of try-outs beginning in mid-October. The Provincial Coaching Staff will then pare the numbers down to approximately 24 to 26 players by or before the middle of November and will continue to develop them through to the end of April.

This team will travel in March to compete internationally and they will finish off in April with games against the Quebec Federation's U14 Provincial Team.

Both the Female and Male Games are held in memory of former Region 5 Head Coach, Mark Hearn, who passed away in December 2007 after a long-term battle with cancer.
