The Blizzard claim is about 50 kilometres southeast of Kelowna. The Blizzard deposits are less than 10 kilometres south of the Big White ski resort. A proposal to develop a uranium mine between Beaverdell and Big White could have ramifications for the South East Kelowna Irrigation District and Kelowna Nordic Cross-Country Ski Club. The Committee for a Clean Kettle Valley held a standing-room-only meeting in Rock Creek on Jan. 24, 2009. A strategy meeting to oppose uranium mining in B.C. will be held in Kelowna on Feb. 21, 2009. "Residents are up in arms about the lifting of the government's own moratorium on uranium mining along the Kettle River," said Jenny Fletcher, committee spokeswoman.
Boss Power applied to the province for work permits on the Blizzard claim on April 21, 2008. Three days later, the province announced a moratorium on uranium development. Boss Power filed a damages lawsuit on Oct. 16, 2008, but the province's Nov. 28 statement of defence apparently says the moratorium doesn't apply to Blizzard.

  • lol glow in the dark cows! It's so sad people destroy the Earth for money, so nice what your doing here!! Keep it up, PEACE!

  • Taking water from A and selling it to B is an economic plan that only drones with a commerce or business degrees can dream up. Big Jake says he supports nuclear manufacturing but there is no evidence the the nuclear industry has ever been responsible for their mental illness. Uranium and power as the future is suicide. Watch Zeitgeist... there are creative thinkers out there and one thing is for sure the answers won't ever come from business or government.

  • @EconomicsCafe We do ban it and will continue. It needs to be banned worldwide. But we're not lifting the ban.

  • You want power, you just aren't willing to sacrifice personally for it...ok.

  • @UFONightHawk

Glow in the dark cows... I call bull****

  • Ban uranium mining in Canada, they'll just mine for uranium in counties with less environmental regulation. Your technique will cause more damage throughout the world. Solar and wind energy requires mining of rare earth minerals which will also leave an environmental toll.

  • glow in the dark burger joint! Make millions of that idea.

  • Perfectly said Ricameeka1313,

Nice to hear that we are on the same page here.

Also nice to hear people who have put there time into researching these topics. We are in big trouble with H202 here on earth. It is a huge problem that could be the End of us All. Other Nations are already suffering the results of the damage we are creating, it just can't continue. Our Leader need to change the way the work there bizzy-ness.

  • Rivers are disappearing all over the world. In fact over 650 rivers in BC alone are threatened right now. What good is a toxic river to anyone? U 238 is water soluble and has a half life of 4.5 billion years. Radiation, alpha, beta, or gamma all destroy human DNA. The nuclear industry is an instrument of war and nothing else. Believe me when all the rivers are diseased all the globe will know is thirst.

  • Thank you so much RicaMeeka 1313 for your support!

The more people who wake up to what is going on here, the better our planet gets;O)

It is our duty as humanity to take action into our own hands & change they way we use energy in our own life's.

If we all making steps in our own life's to become more nature friendly, we change the WORLD.

  • P.S. No the Kettle river would not be "Gone", But YES the river would be wounded & DAMAGED FOREVER. Wildlife, community's,& Farmers would be the ones suffering the damages to the rivers waters. The residents of the Kettle Valley are loosing rights over there water reserve that they depend on for there daily water needs, food crops & livestock. Is that fair for men like BigHugeJake to steal what is not theres & make everyone else suffer the costs of the greed? Is this acceptable? STOP THE Stealing!
