For me, it is nothing or close to nothing before my long runs or marathons. At best, it might be some diet soda with caffeine. Then on the run, I will try to hydrate with electrolyte replacement and water the same as during the marathon. (every other 2 miles varying water and electrolytes)
That works better for me than having something slosh in my stomach trying to digest on an early morning run.
This is great but Gatorade is horrible for your body. Drink Kangen Water instead.
