Did pterosaurs hang upside down and use their head as a pendulum to launch.

Did pterosaurs hang upside down using the large crest on their head to keep it upright whilst perching upside down and then using this mass to rotate and launch themselves like a pendulum swinging themselves into the air?
And was their crest a modification for echolocation?
Were they effectively giant bats?
