(TheWeatherSpace.com) - Most people have been asking themselves where winter has gone and old man winter is now walking with his cane into the midwest, giving the area their first significant snowfall in spots.

This is an interesting one because Piers Corbyn at WeatherAction.com predicted this change back in the Fall, and by Fall I mean early Fall.

While Corbyn got the forecast correct for a large scale, it is now time for TheWeatherSpace.com to get to the short scale and near term of the event. The question on everyones mind now is how much snow will fall.

It is snowing in Omaha right now, the sign this arctic front is on its way into the area. The frontal zone will arrive and gain strength across East-Central Iowa, northward to Western Wisconsin by this evening and overnight.

Over the day on Thursday Eastern Wisconsin to Central and Northern Illinois get hit with the snowfall.

Over the night it will continue to become stronger, with the heaviest snowfall falling in a narrow band from Northern Michigan, southward through Northern Illinois, including the Chicago areas, eastward into Northern Indiana.

Snowfall will reach down into St. Louis for a couple inches and a dusting for most of Tennessee and Kentucky, east to West Virginia. Ohio you will have a few inches for the Northwest part of the state.

As for the Northeast part of the country, I feel we can kill two birds with one stone on this forecast and will go ahead and add you to this forecast period.

This evening a storm system will move off into the Atlantic. Cold air rushing in behind it will work with an area of upper level divergence and start the heavy snowfall across the entire area overnight tonight and lasting through Thursday.

Areas in the Vermont and New Hampshire mountain areas will receive six to nine inches of snow, with a foot likely from Eastern New York, New Hampshire northeast through Northern Maine. The very northern part of Maine will be hit with 18 inches of snowfall by Thursday night.

Another system aims Chicago by the 14th, stay tuned for details as Winter finally shows up.
