ZenTherStick, Santa Fe, Holladay Arts Center, 2009

Santa Fe was inspired by the southwest region of the USA.

Performed on March 28th, 2009 at the Holladay Arts Center, Salt Lake City, UT, USA. Thanks to Steve Auerbach, the Holladay City Arts Council, and Terence Hansen and his band. Special thanks to John Miller (JKSLC) for shooting the video.

The ZenDrum (Zen) is a MIDI digital percussion controller. (www.zendrum.com) It has little highly sensitive trigger pads that are played with the hands and fingers. The ZenDrum has a MIDI out that can then be plugged into any MIDI instrument or computer.

The Theremin (Ther) was the first synthesizer ever built. It was the conception of Leon Theremin in the 1920s. Its played by placing your hands in front of the pitch and volume antennae. Its the only musical instrument that you cant touch when you play it.

The Chapman N/S Stick (Stick) is the newest iteration of Stick tapping instruments. (www.stick.com) It was designed through the collaboration of Emmett Chapman and Ned Steinberger. The 8 strings are pressed or tapped against the frets kinda like a piano. It has the range of both a guitar and a bass and requires 2 brains to play it. Fortunately, Kent has two brains.
