There's a school on the hill
where the sons of dead fathers
are led towards tempests and gaels
where their god-given wings
are clipped close to their bodies
and their eyes are bound 'round with ship sails

  • which of the wizards is singing this? i think its the obvious bottom wizard but my brother thinks its the (so called) wizard at the top, he's just been placed there to fool fools

  • Andy M. Stewart (I'm pretty sure that's him at the top there)

  • you do know this is Scottish, not Irish, right?

  • Of course. What would make you think otherwise?

  • @Gorikain Celtic is Irish, not Scottish...

  • @Kigit42 incorrect

  • I wish this was the type of music that was promoted and played on the radio instead of the made-for-profit americanized pap that's forced down our throat by the media.

Maybe one day it will be....

  • I have loved this song since I first heard it included on a tape an Australian trad-addicted friend made for me in 1988 or '89. Like Frankie Armstrong's modern compositions, it's strongly trad in its feel and concerned with exactly the same things faced by men and women, the same stories play out through the ages. Thus it's true and timeless.

  • "What force leads a man to a life filled with danger on the seas or a mile underground?

It's when need is his Master, and poverty's no stranger,

And there's no other work to be found...."

What Profound Lyrics! The continuing plight of the Working Man!

When will there ever be Fiscal Equality?

    ONLY When we eliminate greed....

  • Andy M. Stewart was Silly Wizard's main Singer.

I had the rare opertunity to play Bodhran with him and Manus Lunny up in St. Paul's "Halftime Rec" back in the late 80's. GREAT Musican and really nice guy!

    {Sigh} Those were the days!
