those are great engines, this situation is not strange. That engines were build to last and mercedes did wonderful job.

sounds like a tractor :D

@kiarra00 yes, good diesel engines can do that. Here in Germany there is an old Diesel Taxi from the 1930s that still runs after over 1 million kilometers. I doubt my Toyota will run that long :-D

@prycho or because i have finish economics department marketing . the reason why they don't make the same like this is simple .
one day they will come to our ''official service'' to pay money .
my friend who work at a company engine for VW more new is the car . more part in engine are plastic than older times was pure iron . they brake at specific km . this is configured from many engineers out there who are interdependent from big manufactured car.

Apart from a newer audi, I keep and old 25-year-old MB W124 TE with 2.3 gas engine - I simply don't want to sell it because it's a "cult car" :) Also in Germany there is a lot of such second-cars..people keep them for sentiment and every day wear & tear other cars..

@drreik Mercedes-Benz W123 & W124 models used to have the best diesel engines (1M km was almost regular!) and after these models, Mercede resigned its policy of doing such durable cars (to be in line with new marketing trends of changing for newer & newer models). Nowodays instead of paying for good goods - one pays for marketing costs..

They have a "Metrocab" taxi in Glasogw Transport museum, where after 1 MILLION miles, (1,6mill km) Ford asked if they could have the engine back (3.0L from memory) as they wanted to see what they had done so right . . . owner said NO THANKS to offer of a brand new engine. . . in that million miles it never had a breakdown, only regular servicing.
there is no oil pressure...

@stexxvan The owner had disconnected and plugged the hose that goes to the indicator because it had a leak, engine had OK oil pressure

1.2million km that's amazing! how many of those miles have you done? Here in the UK I'm impressed when I get into a VW or Toyota minicab/taxi that's done 250,000 miles = 400,000km. Is this car still going?

@mrcoogs86 It wasn't my car, I was just fixing it for some people I know. It's not on the road today, they choose to scrap it because of many problems with rust, suspension, overheating etc. But the engine still ran ok. Such a shame.
