in 2008, when this issue arose, Obama promptly released Hawaii's *only* legal version of his birth certificate, the so-called short form. according to this article "Hawaii law prevents the long-form record from being photocopied or released to anyone—including Obama. Obama himself would only be permitted to inspect it–not copy it or post it online."
