"Contra-" means "against" or "opposite" or "opposing" or "contrasting" and in contra dancing it's helpful to think of this as meaning "opposite with" your partner rather than "opposite to" because contra dancing is a completely cooperative activity - for the benefit of one and all involved - and the more experienced dancers help the beginners. Great fun!

I LOVE THIS, thanks for posting danced these Contradances as often as I could starting quite young with my dad, we even traveled to NH for many! Last one I danced was in 1977 when I graduated CCHS and my parents moved away. Love to see this still going strong!

@molinmusic Glad you liked it! I'm currently out of contradancing because of a broken wrist but I look forward to getting back to it. If you are ever in the area, stop by the Concord Scout House any Monday or Thursday evening and you're likely to see some people you recognize! It's never too late to get back into it so try Google to find some local dances.
