Fascinating. Not the kind of thing you'll see on TV very often.
You commentators who are accusing Letterman of being a "corporate whore" are forgetting that he brought Pekar on the show in the first place. When was the last time a talk show host took repeated risks like this? I'm not saying DL is a hero or has integrity, but I am saying that he's probably a lot more sympathetic to your hero Harvey than what comes across the screen. I like both these guys - and they made a little TV history.
But really if they are sponsoring the show what would you expect?? You think dave is go against his sponsors just for a comedy bit? Be realistic he could have even lost his job....in he beginning of late night intro it would say GE sucks...how many people do you know that go against there boss's like that?
GE had just bought NBC only a year before this. They were Dave's new boss. Dave made a lot of silly jokes at GE's expense but GE does not tolerate anyone on NBC exposing shady business that would cost them real money. Just recently NBC and Fox tried to make a deal to muzzle Keith Olbermann's attacks on Bill O'Reilly because O'Reilly responded by attacking GE's business interests. GE should not own a TV network, no question. But how many people criticizing Letterman would defy their own boss?
